Shubat Transportation Driver chosen as
"Bus Driver of the Year"

Lois LaBarge

   The year was 1997. Lois LaBarge had been driving for six years and enjoying every minute of it. When the opportunity to nominate her for the Minnesota Bus Driver of the Year Award, everyone jumped at the chance.
   Nearly 30 letters of support were received from around the area, including letters of nomination from the Superintendant of Schools, Transportation Director, Transportation Safety Director and the Minnesota State Patrol Safety Education Coordinator.
   Letters were also received from from her passenger's parents and the passengers themselves telling of their feelings of appreciation for the way she performs her job.
   A few excerpts show that everyone feels the same about Lois and how she cares for her special kids.

   "When any of her children are ill, she visits with them at their home or hospital. She is concerned about them until they are well."

   "It is my sincere pleasure to recommend Lois LaBarge for Transportation Specialist of the Year Award. By every standard, Lois is a very outstanding driver. She takes safety seriously and is devoted to her riders."

   "Sometimes we overlook the true heroes who do their job every day and are never recognized by spectacular headlines. Lois LaBarge is one of these heroes."

   "I can't say enough good about Lois. If more people had the caring giving spirit that she has, the world would most certainly be a better place."

   In the words of one of Lois' special kids, "I love Lois, she is the best bus driver."

   Lois is a very special person and everyone at Shubat Transportation congratulates her on an honor well deserved. Included with the award was a check for the district's scholarship fund, given in the Lois' name.

   Its been a few years now since Lois received her Transportation Specialist award and 10 years since she took route 108. Lois still drives the same route, still decorates her bus and continues to be an important part in the lives of her "special kids".
