Safety Tips for Riding the School Bus
Getting to the Bus Stop:
Always arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive.
Stay on the sidewalk or a safe distance from the road while waiting for the bus.
Avoid roughhousing or playing near the bus stop to prevent accidents.
Boarding the Bus:
Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before approaching.
Use the handrail when getting on and off the bus to avoid slipping.
Make sure the bus driver can see you at all times. If you have to cross the street, always cross in front of the bus, never behind it.
Riding the Bus:
Find a seat quickly and sit down facing forward.
Keep the aisle clear of backpacks, books, and feet to ensure safe movement.
Use a quiet voice to avoid distracting the bus driver.
Exiting the Bus:
Wait until the bus comes to a complete stop before standing up.
Use the handrail to exit the bus safely.
If you need to cross the street, take five giant steps away from the bus and make sure the driver can see you before crossing.
General Safety:
Never stick your hands, head, or any objects out of the bus windows.
Always listen to the bus driver and follow their instructions.
In case of an emergency, follow the bus driver's directions and stay calm.
